Part 2C: Milford Sound (13 photos)

The five of us made up about half of the passengers on the tour boat and for most of the voyage I diligently stood at the bow to hold a GoPro on the point to capture a timelapse. I even held my ground when the captain dips the bow into a huge waterfall that completely soaked me head to toe. Unfortunately, this was some of the lost footage. However, we enjoyed the scenery, sun-bathing sea lions, numerous waterfalls, rainbows, and towering cliffs that rose into the clouds. It was easy to see why this is one of the most famous, beautiful, and sought after sounds in the entire planet. Enough with the words, enjoy the photos.

The Lion. Mountain earned the name for resembling a lion laying down; mane on the left, the ridge is his back, his rear haunches below the white cloud, and his tail sloping down to the right.

Sacrifice yourself for the shot!

Told you I got soaked.

Heading back to land.

We were beat that night and camped at the first campground we could find. The rain continued to hold off until well after dark so we cooked up a feast and enjoyed a campfire. Brian and Ann’s tent started leaking in the middle of the night so they decided to pack up and take off instead of waiting out the rain. Us three motorbikers had a good laugh when we found the three eggs they left for us as a parting gift. We planned to meet up again in a few days to check out Fox Glacier on the West Coast.
