Skiing Park City, UT and Sun Valley, ID (March 21 - 24, 2022)

It was pretty cool going on a mountain bike ride in the desert one day, followed by skiing the slopes in the Utah mountains the next. I hiked up Jupiter Peak, the tallest in Park City standing at 9,998ft… so just over 10k at my head height! There is also an old mining factory the left standing right in the middle of the resort. I then took off to Idaho to meet my PCT brother, Moose, who was driving down from Canada to meet me for a few days of skiing.ski hike up

On the drive up to Idaho, I stumbled across this nifty spot so I took some photos and hiked around before continuing on my way. A thick layer of lava rock was worn down over thousands of years by the Big Wood River and this was the resulting geologic feature.

Sun Valley, Idaho

Moose is a teacher in Canada and had a week off for spring break so he made the haul down to the States. We met in Sun Valley, Idaho to shred the gnar and after our first day, one of his Instagram posts caught the attention of our trail sister, Blueberry. She had moved to Ketchum, ID with her husband! Small world. We met up with them, waxed everybody’s skis and boards, and hung out for a bit. For a rest day, we went north towards Stanley, Idaho to check out some hot springs.

Trail friends reunited!

My Gorton Fishermans rain slicker is the best spring skiing get up!!

Moose liked my method of taking a pitstop in Moab to thaw out so he suggested we zip down to Zion National Park for some desert hiking before heading back northward to explore Snowbasin Resort near Ogden, UT. It was only an eight hour drive, why not?!?
