As mentioned in a previous post I moved full time into my Subaru and embarked on a never ending adventure. I have quite the backlog of photos and video clips from my travels and taking a three month soiree to Baja, Mexico was the kick in the pants that I needed to jumpstart my blog. I am coming up on my 1-year anniversary of life on the road so I thought it was time to share how it all began:
I hit the road on February 26th, 2022 right after Russia invaded Ukraine and gas prices skyrocketed. What great timing for a cross-country drive! Once I reached Denver, I picked up a Yakima Skybox cargo box to store my skis and gear and then continued up to the hills. My Maryland friends, Joel and Andrew, were in Vail for a ski trip with their crew so I skied with them for my first few days. They all wound up leaving a day earlier than originally planned and graciously let me stay at their AirBNB for the final night. This was also when my AT friend, White, was coming up and wow was he surprised. He was expecting to meet me and sleep in his car at a truck stop or wherever since that what I was doing… but instead I had a four bedroom condo with a hot tub!
My new cargo roof box didn't quite fit on the Subaru's roof rack, the tailgate would hit the box. The adjustable brackets were maxed out to have the box all the way forward. Luckily, I packed some tools and cut away some of the lip around the back of the cargo box. Now the tailgate has clearance
I met Steve-O and Dakota, other friends from my winter as a ski-instructor and we skied Beaver Creek some days. I also got some more skiing with my PCT sister, Shark, and eventually decided to bounce down to Telluride, CO since I have never skied there. I camped at some nearby Forest Service land and was blessed with almost 12” of fresh powder for my first day! Shark had a Thru-Hiker friend who worked at the resort so I met up with him for a night out on the town. I also met some locals and skied with them for a day or two. It is a great mountain.
Next up was Salt Lake City and their huge resort that is on the Epic Pass: Park City. Only Moab, UT was directly on the way so I decided to stop in the desert and thaw out for a few days.
